About the Pharmaceutical Facility
This project was completed within a large-scale pharmaceutical facility featuring an 18,000m² fully automated high bay warehouse. The refurbishment required a robust flooring solution capable of supporting continuous operations while enhancing safety, traffic segregation and long-term performance throughout.

Project Overview
The existing concrete flooring required refurbishment to improve surface performance, workplace safety, and the overall appearance of the facility. A key part of the project involved introducing clearly defined pedestrian walkways to improve movement throughout the site and create better separation between personnel and operational traffic.
Following consultation with the client, a high-performance slip-resistant flooring system was selected to deliver a durable, visually defined, and low-maintenance finish suitable for heavy-duty industrial use.
What Did We Do?
The refurbishment process involved full mechanical preparation of the existing concrete substrate to ensure optimal adhesion and long-term flooring performance.
Works Included:
• Mechanical preparation of the concrete using a vacuum-assisted diamond grinder
• Removal of surface dirt and preparation of the substrate surface
• Controlled dust removal during the entire preparation process
• Application of several layers of slip-resistant coatings
• Careful masking and placement of pedestrian safety markings
• Installation of high-visibility walkway systems and giraffe crossings
System Specification and Products
To deliver the required levels of durability, slip resistance, and visual zoning, a high-performance Altro flooring system was installed throughout the facility.
Concrete Surface Preparation
The existing concrete substrate was mechanically prepared using a 415V vacuum-assisted diamond grinding system. This process removed surface contamination, improved the floor profile, and created the correct surface key for coating adhesion while maintaining controlled dust management throughout the works.
Altrotect Slip-Resistant Base Coats
Two roller-applied coats of Altro Altrotect Slip Resistant in Dawn Grey were installed across the main floor areas. Appropriate curing times were maintained between applications to ensure optimal durability and long-term system performance.
Altrotect Slip-Resistant Walkway System
A contrasting Sark Blue finish was applied to create clearly defined pedestrian walkways throughout the facility. The colour differentiation improved visibility and established clear separation between pedestrian routes and operational areas.
Safety Markings and Line Work
High-visibility safety yellow giraffe crossings and edge markings were installed using precision masking techniques to enhance traffic guidance and reinforce safe pedestrian movement across the site.
Outcome
The completed refurbishment transformed the warehouse environment, delivering a safer, cleaner, and more visually organised workspace. The introduction of designated pedestrian walkways and high-visibility safety markings improved site navigation and traffic management while supporting safer day-to-day operations.
The new slip-resistant flooring system also provided a durable, low-maintenance surface capable of withstanding the demands of continuous industrial use without compromising appearance or performance.
