What is Industrial Resin Flooring?

Industrial resin flooring is a high-performance system created by combining liquid resins with hardeners, bonding directly to concrete to form a seamless, jointless surface. For Coventry businesses from automotive and manufacturing operations in Canley and Foleshill to logistics facilities along the A45 and M6 corridor, resin flooring withstands forklift traffic, chemical exposure, and heavy machinery.

Standard concrete cannot match the durability, hygiene, or safety performance that resin delivers in Coventry’s demanding industrial and commercial environments.

Concrete Dust Control

COSHH & RCS Compliance. We seal industrial substrates to eliminate dust, meeting the 0.1 mg/mÂł RCS exposure limit.

Slip Resistance Ratings

BS 7976 Tested Safety. Anti-slip resin finishes tested to BS 7976, protecting your workforce in wet-process zones.

Chemical Resistance

HACCP, BRCGS & CIFFA Compliant. Chemically resistant resin systems meeting HACCP, BRCGS, and CIFFA standards, keeping you audit-ready.

The FERFA Flooring Classification System

FERFA (the Resin Flooring Association) classifies resin floors into eight distinct types, aligned with BS 8204-6, Section 6.2. The system defines each floor type by thickness, construction, and performance characteristics, giving Coventry businesses and specifiers a clear framework for selecting the right system for their environment.

GradeType / ThicknessTypical Application
Type 1Floor Seal (<0.15mm)Light-duty protection, dust sealing, and decorative finish on concrete.
Type 2Floor Coating (0.15–0.3mm)Warehouses, factories, garages; hard-wearing decorative finish.
Type 3High-Build Coating (0.3–1.0mm)Medium-duty industrial/commercial, excellent abrasion and chemical resistance.
Type 4Multi-Layer Coating (>2.0mm)Heavy-duty areas: sandwich systems with base coat, wear layer, and sealer.
Type 5Flow Applied Flooring (2.0–3.0mm)Self-smoothing/self-levelling: medium to heavy duty, foot traffic and light vehicles.
Type 6Flow Applied Screed (2.0–3.0mm)Trowel-finished, heavily filled: surface seal coat to minimise porosity.
Type 7Trowel Applied Flooring (4.0–6.0mm)Heavy-duty smooth screed: high impact and wear resistance.
Type 8Trowel Applied Heavy Duty Flooring (4.0–9.0mm)Extreme duty; aggregate-filled, impervious throughout, maximum durability.

Types of Resin Flooring

Epoxy High Build Coating - Line markings in Factory

Epoxy Resin Flooring

Epoxy flooring is strong and resistant to oils, fuels and chemicals. Available in thin, high-build and self-levelling systems for industrial use.

Polyurethane Flooring

PU resin is flexible and suits thermal shock and movement. Cementitious polyurethane resists heat, steam and acids in food production.

Polyaspartic Flooring - Hero

Polyaspartic Flooring

Fast-curing, UV-stable system ready within hours for minimal downtime.
Suitable for internal and external areas like loading bays and car parks.

MMA Flooring - Hero

MMA Flooring

Fastest-curing option, full strength in under 2 hours even at -20°C.
Ideal for cold stores and unheated spaces with good ventilation required.

Sectors We Work With Across Birmingham

Warehousing & Distribution

Coventry’s central motorway links make it a key logistics hub. We install epoxy and polyurethane screeds with anti-slip finishes and line marking for warehouses and distribution centres across the West Midlands.

Manufacturing & Industrial Plants

Coventry’s manufacturing sector spans engineering, electronics and precision components. We install FERFA-rated resin flooring tailored to each facility’s traffic, chemical and hygiene requirements.

Hospitals, Healthcare & Care Homes

Healthcare environments in Coventry need seamless, hygienic, slip-resistant floors for intensive cleaning. We install resin systems that meet NHS and CQC standards across hospitals, care homes and clinics in the area.

Automotive, Dealerships & Garages

Coventry’s automotive sector, from Jaguar Land Rover to suppliers and workshops, needs floors resistant to oil, fuel and hydraulic fluids. We install epoxy and polyaspartic systems with durable, professional finishes.

Our Industrial Resin Flooring Installation Process

While the installation process of resin flooring is uncomplicated, it demands the touch of professionals to achieve the best possible outcomes. Therefore, our team at Industrial Resin Flooring manages the whole process, from the initial surface preparation to the final touches. As a result, ensuring minimal interruption to your warehouse operations.

We begin with a thorough site survey and substrate assessment, testing moisture levels, compressive strength, and surface profile, followed by detailed specification of the resin system, surface preparation method, and project programme, ensuring the right product is selected before a single bag of material is opened.

Surface preparation is carried out first, typically by diamond grinding or shot blasting to achieve the correct surface profile (CSP), before primer, build coats, and topcoat are applied in the specified sequence under controlled conditions, with each layer given the appropriate cure time.

On completion, the floor is inspected against specification, adhesion tested where required, and a full handover pack is provided, including the product data sheets, maintenance guidance, and any relevant test certifications, so you have full documentation for compliance and future reference.

I have questions…

We cover the full Coventry city area, including Canley, Foleshill, Longford, Whitley, Binley, Tile Hill, Stoke, and Radford. We also work regularly across the wider West Midlands and into Warwickshire, including Rugby, Kenilworth, Leamington Spa, Nuneaton, and Hinckley. If you are unsure whether your site falls within our range, get in touch, and we will confirm.

In most cases, we can arrange a site visit within 2–5 working days of your enquiry. A detailed written specification and quotation are typically returned within 3 working days of the survey. If your project is time-critical, let us know at the point of enquiry, and we will prioritise accordingly.

Installation duration depends on floor area, system specification, and substrate condition. As a guide, a medium-sized industrial floor of around 500m² typically takes 3–5 days, including surface preparation and full cure. We regularly work evenings, nights, and weekends to minimise disruption to businesses that cannot close during standard working hours. This is planned from the outset as standard practice.

Standard epoxy and polyurethane systems are typically safe for foot traffic within 24 hours and forklift or vehicle traffic within 48–72 hours, depending on ambient temperature and the specific product used. Where downtime is critical, we can specify fast-cure systems. Polyaspartic coatings can be returned to light foot traffic in as little as 2–4 hours, and MMA systems can be fully operational within 1–2 hours of completion.

We can specify and deliver resin floors across the full slip resistance range, from R9 (low risk, dry environments) through to R13 (high risk, heavily contaminated or wet conditions). Anti-slip aggregates, such as aluminium oxide, quartz, or similar, are broadcast into the topcoat to achieve the required rating. We will recommend the appropriate specification based on your activities and applicable health and safety requirements.

In most cases, yes. Our resin flooring contractors assess the existing substrate as part of the site survey. Minor surface defects, cracks, and laitance can be repaired and prepared prior to installation using appropriate repair mortars and diamond grinding. Where concrete is heavily contaminated or structurally compromised, we will advise on the correct course of action before the resin system is applied.
