What is Industrial Resin Flooring?
Industrial resin flooring is a high-performance system made by combining liquid resins with hardeners to create a seamless, durable surface that bonds directly to concrete. Unlike traditional flooring, it forms a single joint-free layer with no seams or grout lines, eliminating common weak points where moisture, bacteria and contamination can build up.
For businesses across Manchester and Greater Manchester, resin flooring is built to handle demanding environments. Whether in a busy distribution centre, food production facility or manufacturing plant, it stands up to heavy machinery, forklift traffic, chemicals and constant footfall, far beyond what standard concrete or vinyl can manage.

The FERFA Flooring Grading System
FERFA (the Resin Flooring Association) is the UK’s trade body for the resin flooring industry, and its grading system provides a recognised framework for classifying floor coatings and systems by thickness and application type. Understanding FERFA gradings helps Manchester businesses specify the right product for their environment and budget.
| Grade | Type / Thickness | Typical Application |
|---|---|---|
| Type 1 | Floor Seal (<0.15mm) | Light-duty protection, dust sealing, and decorative finish on concrete. |
| Type 2 | Floor Coating (0.15–0.3mm) | Warehouses, factories, garages; hard-wearing decorative finish. |
| Type 3 | High-Build Coating (0.3–1.0mm) | Medium-duty industrial/commercial, excellent abrasion and chemical resistance. |
| Type 4 | Multi-Layer Coating (>2.0mm) | Heavy-duty areas: sandwich systems with base coat, wear layer, and sealer. |
| Type 5 | Flow Applied Flooring (2.0–3.0mm) | Self-smoothing/self-levelling: medium to heavy duty, foot traffic and light vehicles. |
| Type 6 | Flow Applied Screed (2.0–3.0mm) | Trowel-finished, heavily filled: surface seal coat to minimise porosity. |
| Type 7 | Trowel Applied Flooring (4.0–6.0mm) | Heavy-duty smooth screed: high impact and wear resistance. |
| Type 8 | Trowel Applied Heavy Duty Flooring (4.0–9.0mm) | Extreme duty; aggregate-filled, impervious throughout, maximum durability. |
Types of Resin Flooring
Epoxy Resin Flooring
Epoxy flooring is strong and resistant to oils, fuels and chemicals. Available in thin, high-build and self-levelling systems for industrial use.
Polyurethane Flooring
PU resin is flexible and suits thermal shock and movement. Cementitious polyurethane resists heat, steam and acids in food production.
MMA Flooring
Fastest-curing option, full strength in under 2 hours even at -20°C.
Ideal for cold stores and unheated spaces with good ventilation required.

Our Industrial Resin Flooring Installation Process
While the installation process of resin flooring is uncomplicated, it demands the touch of professionals to achieve the best possible outcomes. Therefore, our team at Industrial Resin Flooring manages the whole process, from the initial surface preparation to the final touches. As a result, ensuring minimal interruption to your warehouse operations.
We begin with a thorough site survey and substrate assessment, testing moisture levels, compressive strength, and surface profile, followed by detailed specification of the resin system, surface preparation method, and project programme, ensuring the right product is selected before a single bag of material is opened.
Surface preparation is carried out first, typically by diamond grinding or shot blasting to achieve the correct surface profile (CSP), before primer, build coats, and topcoat are applied in the specified sequence under controlled conditions, with each layer given the appropriate cure time.
On completion, the floor is inspected against specification, adhesion tested where required, and a full handover pack is provided, including the product data sheets, maintenance guidance, and any relevant test certifications, so you have full documentation for compliance and future reference.

I have questions…
We cover the full Greater Manchester area, including Manchester city centre, Salford, Trafford, Stockport, Tameside, Oldham, Rochdale, Bolton, Wigan, and Bury. We also regularly work in the surrounding counties of Cheshire, Lancashire, and West Yorkshire, so if you’re not sure whether your site falls within our range, just get in touch and we’ll confirm.
In most cases, we can arrange a site visit within 2–5 working days of your enquiry. Following the visit, a detailed written specification and quotation is typically turned around within 3 working days. If your project is time-critical, let us know, and we will do our best to prioritise the survey and quotation accordingly.
Installation duration depends on the floor area, the system specified, and the condition of the existing substrate. As a general guide, a medium-sized industrial floor of around 500m² would typically take 3–5 days including surface preparation and full cure. We regularly work evenings, nights, and weekends to minimise disruption to businesses that cannot close during standard working hours — this is something we’re happy to discuss and plan around from the outset.
Standard epoxy and polyurethane systems are typically safe for foot traffic within 24 hours and forklift or vehicle traffic within 48–72 hours, depending on ambient temperature and the specific product used. If downtime is a critical factor, we can specify a fast-cure system — polyaspartic coatings can be returned to light foot traffic in as little as 2–4 hours, and MMA systems can be fully operational within 1–2 hours of completion.
We can specify and deliver resin floors across the full slip resistance range, from R9 (low risk, dry environments) through to R13 (high risk, heavily contaminated or wet conditions). Anti-slip aggregates, aluminium oxide, quartz, or similar, are broadcast into the topcoat to achieve the required rating. We will recommend the appropriate specification for your environment based on the activities taking place and any applicable industry standards or health and safety requirements.
In most cases, yes. Our industrial resin flooring installers in Manchester assess the condition of the existing substrate as part of the site survey. Minor surface defects, cracks, and laitance can be repaired and prepared prior to installation using appropriate repair mortars and diamond grinding. Where the concrete is heavily contaminated (oil-soaked, for example) or structurally compromised, we will advise on the most appropriate course of action, which may include more extensive surface preparation or substrate repair work, before the resin system is applied.
