What is Self-Levelling Epoxy?

A self-levelling epoxy floor coating is a liquid-applied resin system that naturally levels itself to form an ultra-smooth, seamless surface once poured. Applied at a typical thickness of 2 to 4 mm, self-levelling epoxy resin creates a hard-wearing, glossy finish ideal for areas that demand hygiene, easy cleaning, and visual inspection.

Unlike high-build epoxy, which is roller-applied, or epoxy screeds, which are thicker and more labour-intensive, self-levelling concrete epoxy flows into place, eliminating irregularities in the substrate and curing into a uniform, flat finish. It’s especially popular in pharmaceutical cleanrooms and other contamination-sensitive industries, where the ability to visibly detect dirt or spills is essential.

Important Note: This is the only epoxy resin flooring solution we offer that cannot be made slip-resistant. Due to its smooth, glass-like surface, self-levelling epoxy is not recommended for wet or high-traffic areas where slip hazards exist.

I have questions…

Self-levelling epoxy is poured and spreads out on its own to create a smooth finish. Standard epoxy (like high-build epoxy) is typically roller-applied and results in a textured or slightly uneven finish. Self-levelling systems are more suited to areas that require hygiene, clarity, and easy cleaning.

Due to its smooth and glossy finish, it cannot be made slip-resistant. It is not suitable for areas with moisture, washdowns, or where spills are common.

Yes, but only in dry, controlled environments. The surface is durable, but if subjected to excessive impact or moisture, it may degrade over time.

Most installations can be completed in 1 to 2 days, depending on site size, followed by a 24-48 hour curing period for light use, and up to 7 days for full chemical resistance.

Proper substrate preparation is essential. This includes mechanical surface preparation to create a key, followed by priming. Uneven or damaged concrete may require patch repair before installation.
